During the week of Oct. 29, all of New Hope
Solebury’s fall sports team will have the chance to bring home the gold and
represent New Hope Solebury High School in districts. After a spectacular
regular season across all of New Hope Solebury’s fall sports each team will
have the opportunity to go far in districts and states.
The girl's soccer team lead their district as
the first seed and went straight to the district final contesting St. Basils on
Oct. 30, this was the second year the two teams faced each other in the
championship. After a thrilling 80 minutes passed (end regulation), the score
was 0-0 leading the players into overtime. Both teams fought to the nail,
however, the score was still 0-0 at the end of overtime thus the start of
penalty kicks. Unfortunately, the lions feel 3-4 after two New Hope penalty
kicks went wide. Maggie Devito, the junior captain reflected after the game
saying “I think we put our best effort out there. We’ve been looking forward to
this game to come back from our loss last year. We had more confidence in
ourselves this year to go out and battle with them.” The New Hope Solebury
soccer team finished with an 11-6-1 record and were undefeated in the BAL.
Boys soccer won their first district playoff
game against Pope John Paul II on Oct. 30
and are going to the championship against Lansdale Catholic. The playoff game
was dominated by the lions displaying fantastic ball movement and the skill
work they practiced throughout the regular season. The boy's team took home
another victory against Lansdale Catholic on Saturday, November 3. establishing
them as back-to-back district champions. They ended their season with an 11-6-1
record and will go onto States. Unfortunately, the boys lost their first state
game 0-5 to Fleetwood Senior High School.
New Hope Solebury’s girls field hockey finished
with an undefeated season (one tie against Jenkintown) and only had one goal
scored on them throughout the entire season. After defeating both Dock
Mennonite and Lower Moreland in playoff games they went on to win the district
championship against Sacred Heart Academy 2-0. Both Sarah Hayden and Mackenzie
Meyers found the back of the net in the game leading the Lions to victory. The
back-to-back district champs will go onto states. The Lady Lions won their
first state game 2-0 against Northwestern Lehigh High School with goals by Erin
Firth and Ella Czarnecki. Sadly the girls lost in the quarter finals, 0-2,
against Olley Valley.
The football team was down 21-0 at half time
during the District 1/12 Region Semi-Final but rose to the occasion and won 42-34
victory over Pope John Paul II. The comeback win
marks the the first playoff win since 2015. New Hope will play for the championship on Friday, Nov. 9
against Conwell-Egan, who one 54-12 over School of the Future. New
Hope fell 13-42 to Conwell-Egan in the district championship on Nov. 10.
The girl's volleyball team won the district
championship game against St. Basil in the first three sets to win their third
straight District 1, Class 2A title. After a fantastic season with only one
loss against CB East, they will go to fight in States. The girls are fired up
for there trip to States Katie Costello had this to say after winning the
district final, “It does feel special [winning] we keep having to work hard.”
The girls won their first district game against Bishop McDevitt in the first
three sets. In the quarter finals of states, the girls lost against Holy
Redemption 1-3 sets. Nonetheless, they had a fantastic season and battled until
the end.
The Girls Tennis team has qualified for
districts and will play soon. Boys Golf players, Kyle Sullivan and Liam
Griffith will represent New Hope at the
district playoffs. All Cross Country Runners have qualified for districts and
competed on Oct. 26.
Overall, all of New Hope’s fall sports teams
have shown grit, spirit, and determination this year making there fellow peers
and fans proud.
